AVATAR HOMECOMING FOR ROY HENDRICKSON
Creative Community welcomes back a Veteran Mixer

NEW YORK, June 17, 2002-AVATAR Studios, New York's legendary recording studio welcomes back Roy Hendrickson, renowned engineer and mixer to the midtown facility. Roy will use the large room on the fourth floor that has a breathtaking view of the Manhattan skyline for his mixing and artist development projects, and utilize the Avatar rooms for tracking and additional engineering.

Roy joined Power Station in 1985 and worked for 7 years before he became a freelance engineer in 1992. Since then, he has worked in many studios, but he still maintains that the rooms in Avatar are a leap beyond other places acoustically and are the easiest to work in. "The building feels like home to me. It is a great place for inspiration and creative support. It was like that during Power Station days, and it is still like that today as Avatar." Roy carries on the sharing and mentoring tradition that helped shape him. "His deep technical understanding of equipment and his can-do attitude are already rubbing off on our employees," said Kirk Imamura, president of Avatar. "He is a great addition to our Creative Community."

Being a very hands-on person, Roy has literally shaped the room sonically to fit his needs. The room's centerpiece is a couple of Yamaha 02R consoles. He has mixed over 20 albums on these consoles. Other equipment includes Urei LA3A, Pultech equalizers, Neve 1073 channel modules, Eventide SP2016, and an Ampex ATR-102. The room is also tied into analog reverb units, EMT 140ST, located in the basement. Roy marries vintage gear, some of which he purchased from Power Station, with modern equipment such as Pro Tools. He is prepared to handle any kind of digital audio system. Located on the 4th floor, the room has a large sliding door that provides a rare outside view and access to the rooftop, a setting conducive to relaxed creativity.

Roy has worked on a variety of albums, from acclaimed Doo-Bop by Miles Davis to Way I Am by Jennifer Knapp, an up and coming contemporary Christian artist. One of Roy's favorite projects was working on the film soundtrack for Any Given Sunday where he engineered songs by P.O.D and Missy Elliot, which were tracked and mixed at Avatar. Other notable projects that he worked on include Philippe Saisse's Halfway Till Dawn and Wayman Tisdale's Face to Face. Roy just completed work on Romero Lubambo's 3rd album featuring Ivan Lins and Herbie Mann. He will team up again with Philippe Saisse for his next project. With his room set up, Roy is gearing up for more projects as he targets artists in rock & roll, R&B, and pop.
